About
The location for our June and September retreats is An Taigh Ur, a beautiful ecohouse at Kintra on the Ross of Mull.
Built along the lines of a traditional croft 'longhouses, An Taigh Ur (literally 'the new house') been designed with some of the latest eco building technologies to offer guests high standards of comfort with a low carbon footprint.
The open plan spaces within are full of light with spectacular views across Kintra Bay to the Isle of Iona. This tranquil bay is a wonderful place to retreat and relax.
The retreat is a chance to escape from the stressful pace of the world and reconnect with your inner self. You’ll be immersed in the beauty and peace of this special corner of the islands, you’ll practise yoga, learn to meditate & treat your body to nutritious vegetarian meals.
There’ll be time to go walking along the spectacular coastline, take a boat to Iona, draw, paint & read or simply sit and be.
Daily Plan
In the morning we’ll have an energising yoga class and guided meditation.
In the afternoons we will explore the rich and vibrant Hebridean landscape, visit secluded white sandy beaches and the local isles of Erraid and Iona.
As a year-round open water swimmer I’ll take you (optional!!) wild swimming at sheltered shallow bays.
We’ll take a sailing trip on the Birthe Marie sailing boat, with expert helmsman Mark Jardine. To ease out before dinner, we have a wonderful restorative yoga session with guided deep relaxation.
A Delicious healthy diet!
We’ll be enjoying delicious vegetarian dishes, using local and seasonal organic produce. Our chef will use fruit, veg and eggs straight from the croft gardens whenever possible.
Taigh Foise (pronounced ‘Tie Foshe’): With Solar panels, floor to ceiling windows, air
source heat recovery system and under-floor heating, Taigh Foise ecohouse is an energy self-sustaining building. This state-of-the-art ecohouse is light, clean & bright with spacious accommodation making it a pleasure to dwell in.
Dail an Inbher is a family-run ecocroft, home to Nigel and Rosie Burgess, their flock of Jacob sheep, their free range hens and an abundance of wildlife.
They produce fruit and vegetables in the sheltered valley gardens and run a small farm shop, the Crofter’s Kitchen and Gardens.
Retreat leader, Zoë Heald
I’ve been teaching yoga on Mull & Iona for over 10 years, having moved up here from London for a bit more fresh air! My family moved to Mull over 30 years ago so, as a local, I can show you the hidden gems of these islands. I first studied yoga while living in Japan in 1994 and have been a devoted practioner ever since. I graduated as Sivananda Yoga Teacher in 2008, and Master of Yoga in 2010, having previously practised under the tutelage of the British Wheel of Yoga and the Satyananda Yoga Centre in London.
I am also a Registered Senior Yoga Teacher with the UK Yoga Alliance. My classes have a gentle pace allowing time to investigate postures and movements, learning about anatomy while paying attention to our own individual needs. Whenever possible we take our practice outdoors, opening our senses and rediscovering our place in nature.
Ultimately we aim to develop balance, flexibility and a sense of clarity in mind, body and spirit. I’ve been running yoga holidays on the Isles of Mull and Iona since 2014. Our retreats are for small groups, usually between 6 and 8. This enables us to give everyone plenty of personal guidance in their own yoga practice. Every year guests return to us time and time again to enjoy a complete break on our transformative retreats in nature.
